FEATURED IDEA
Organizing with Framed Message
Boards
Do-it-yourself Rating: Intermediate
| |
School notes, sports schedules,
reminders, shopping lists. The bits of paper cluttering your
home never seem to let up. We have a great solution to this
clutter dilemma.
Following our step-by-step instructions, you'll be able to
attractively frame dry-erase boards and fabric-covered cork
boards. You've seen these boards in all of the home stores
and fancy home catalogs. Now you can do it yourself and put
an end to the clutter.
For your project, simply follow the below steps using your
own dimensions and product selections.
A word of caution: When selecting a frame, make sure the rabbet
depth is deep enough to accommodate the thickness of your
dry-erase and cork boards. The rabbet is the inner channel
of a frame which holds the picture and any framing materials.
The rabbet "R" of each profile is shown on the corresponding
page for each frame in our catalog. |

Let's Get Started! |
|
STEP 1
Determine the "look"
for your message boards.
|
|
Select fabric and ribbon to suit your décor
a printed
country calico for the kitchen, a plaid for the laundry room or
a tailored pinstripe for the back hallway. For the kids' rooms
you might want to try something bright and whimsical.
|
|
|
|
STEP 2
Affix fabric & ribbon to corkboard.
|
|
Spray adhesive evenly on the surface of the corkboard. Smooth
fabric across prepared surface of corkboard, wrap excess fabric
around to the back of the board, and secure with staples.
Crisscross and weave ribbons in a pattern on top of the fabric
and secure it with staples on the ends of the corkboard.
|
|

|
|
STEP 3
Secure in frame.
|
|
Place your frames face down. Put your covered corkboard or dry-erase
board into the back of the frame. Finish by placing the piece
of foam core mounting board into the frame, creating a secure
base. Using your screwdriver, install spring clips to the frame
to hold everything in place. (For this example we used a Point
Driver to secure everything in place. This is an easy and fast
way to secure your frame.).

STEP 4
Apply the dust cover.
|
| Apply a dust
cover by putting adhesive transfer tape on the back of the frame
and placing Kraft paper onto it. Using the Dust Cover Trimmer, carefully
trim off excess paper. To tighten the paper backing, use a spray
bottle to mist water on the dust cover and let it dry for a few
minutes. |
|
 |
STEP 5
Finishing touches.
|
|
Secure the hanging hardware and you are ready to Get Organized!
