FEATURED IDEA
Framing Records and CDs
Do-it-yourself Rating: Beginner
Our music framing kits vary depending on what you choose to frame - a collectable album and its cover, 78s, 45s or a CD and its cover sleeve. Each kit includes custom cut mats, plexi-glass and mounting board … all you need to do is select the frame.
Search through your collection and choose a vintage classic. Following our kit instructions, no adhesives are used to secure your media. The mat openings are designed to secure your records and covers within the frame. This way, the records and CDs remain playable should you choose to remove them from the frame at some point.
For your project, simply order one of the ready-made kits with its pre-determined mat colors or you can choose your own mat board colors. Then choose the frame that is just right for your décor.

Let's Get Started!
STEP 1
Inserting the materials.
Take the bottom mat board, with the mounting board attached, and place it on a flat surface. First insert the record into the circular window, then the album cover in the square window.
On the back of the top mats, center and attach your Title Card in the smaller 1"x6" window with hinging tape. For this example we simply printed the artist and album name, along with the record company and the year published on our laser printer.

STEP 2
Attach top mats.
Apply adhesive transfer tape close to the edge of the album cover and record windows, on the top surface of the bottom mat board.

Take the top and middle mat boards and position them on top of the album and record, making sure the outer edges line up. You will see that the top mats overlap your materials by about a 3/8". This overlap is what securely holds your materials in place.
STEP 3
Remove the protective paper from your Plexi-glass.
Peel off one side of the protective paper from the plexi-glass. Place the exposed side of the plexi-glass down on the mat. Peel off the remaining paper.
STEP 4
Begin assembly.
Carefully lay the frame facedown on a clean work surface and insert your plexi-glass and matted materials. Using your screwdriver, install spring clips to the frame to hold everything in place. (For our example we used a Point Driver because of it's ease of use)
STEP 5
Apply the dust cover to your wood frame.
Apply a dust cover by putting adhesive transfer tape on the back of the frame and placing Kraft paper onto it. Using the Dust Cover Trimmer, carefully trim off excess paper. To tighten the paper backing, use a spray bottle to mist water on the dust cover and let it dry for a few minutes.
(Dust cover cannot be applied when using traditional spring clips)
STEP 6
Finishing touches.
Secure the hanging hardware and you are ready to enjoy your professionally matted and framed record album.
Note: With our example we upgraded from standard plexi-glass to UV protected plexi-glass. This will help eliminated fading of the album art from exposure to the sun's rays.
